Cold Snap™ pear Dessert

Baked Cold Snap™ pears with pecan and honey filling
Recipe developed by Chef Jan-Willem Stulp, Grand Oak Culinary Market

``I’d like to introduce a newcomer to you; Cold Snap™  pears. Produced and developed right here in Vineland, a stone’s throw from the Grand Oak! A firm, sweet keeping pear, it is being introduced to select stores throughout Ontario, as we speak. Already packed with vitamins, it also is high in flavonoids, which significantly impacts diabetes risk. The Cold Snap™ pear is a good looker, too, with nice size and colour, and in this recipe, it will save you stress, and qualify as a healthful dessert to boot!``
- Chef Jan-Willem Stulp

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cold Snap™ pears washed
  • 2 Tbsp pecan pieces
  • 1 Tbsp local honey
  • Orange Zest

Directions:

  1. Slice the top third off the pear, and reserve. Slice about ¼ inch off the bottom, and dice up. With a melon baller core out the pear.
  2. Combine the honey, pear dice and pecans with a bit of Orange Zest, (and a drop of Vanilla, if you like) and fill the pears.
  3. Place in a baking dish, add ¼ inch of water, and roast at about 325F for 40 minutes or so.  The pear will caramelize, and become tender.

Service with ice cream or Chantilly, and enjoy!
